Photos from last night: wandering on a Monday evening to buy a saucepan from Bangla Town (an awesome cash-n-carry on Brick Lane), and to eat some sweets. I don’t know the name, but my favourite is a dense squiggle of fried dough, soaked in a sugary syrup. Oh, and guess who finally upgraded from a Nokia brick?

A familiar face – Tame Iti. (See my photo of a similar stencil in 2008!)

Last weekend Thom and I sneaked away from mad London to enjoy 24 hours of loveliness in Oxfordshire. Thom’s parents live in the UK, and it was Father’s Day here, so we went to hang out with his family.
After pottering around in Oxford (beautiful old buildings, bookstores, PRIMARK), we headed to Blenheim Palace, home to the Duke of Marlborough and birthplace of Winston Churchill (yes, in the bed below).

I love palaces… And this one was quite lovely to look at. It’s a shame that the owners have taken a weird theme park approach in some places. At one stage we were trapped in a never-ending series of rooms, terrorised by animatronic maids. We finally exited to a gift shop. One entry gets you a year-long pass – I’d like to go back again and spend more time in the gardens.

It’s supposed to be summer here, but no dice. I’m still lusting after this Markham pure alpaca wool collar – in silver mink from Good night, day. Alpaca is said to be incredibly soft – just the thing to have around my neck while the wind whips around.

Venice in a Day from Joerg Niggli on Vimeo.
Oh, take me there! I have a week off work in less than a month, and I’ve been a bit tardy about organising somewhere to go. Cornwall? Switzerland? Paris? I was thinking of Genoa too, but Venice, you look gorgeous.

Long time CFS favourites Gaggle have released the first single from their new album From The Mouth Of The Cave is called Army Of Birds. Do what it says on the packet – watch full screen (change the settings to HD) and pop your headphones on. Lovely, and a little bit trippy.

I love a good breakdown – especially of the ROY(al)GBIV variety. As you can see, this Vogue chart shows off The Queen’s penchant for bold block colours. It’s all very inspiring really – currently my wardrobe comprises of mostly black, navy, and more black. If Liz can rock the rainbow, perhaps I can too?

Heat waves, picnics, backyard barbecues, wine tasting, bike riding, the most perfect mint table, overdosing on galleries. May has been quite lovely, filled with friends and sunshine.

The Jubilee would be that much tastier if I had a Garden Cake on hand to celebrate with. Made by Mimi Thorisson, it’s two slabs of meringue sandwiched together by cream, and decorated with wildflowers and fruit… very reminiscent of that New Zealand classic, the Pavlova.
