In one month I am going to hop on a plane, watch a ton of bad films, eat some awful food and read some trashy magazines; have a brief jaunt in Korea, and then, 48 hours later, touch down at Heathrow. Thanks to Creative Cities and the British Council, I’m on my way to the London Festival of Architecture!
I’m pretty chuffed. London and I got acquainted briefly last year – but I am thrilled to have another chance to spend some quality time exploring the city, and a discipline (architecture) that really appeals to me. I will be blogging madly for Creative Cities and doing my usual travelogues on Code For Something.
You know what else appeals? A mini European summer…
Yay! I’ve never been to the Continent before. Not sure where I’m going, but there’s still 26 days to plan. So where’s good to hang out in (Western) Europe? As always, if you have any hot tips I’d love to hear them.

Wee-hee! You will have a blast. Looking forward to the up-dates. Be sure to get to Copenhagen, and Amsterdam! CP is consistently voted best city in the world to live….
How long are you going to stay in London! I’ll be there from july 2nd!
Also, I recommend Paris, Austria (Wien) and Italy! Mhm.. :)
And if you decide to go to Oslo, I can find some friends to show you around! :)
How amazing! That’s going to be such a great trip. I can’t wait to see the pictures you take and hear about all the amazing things you discover there.
Jealous. So Jealous.
Read David Leibovitz’s The Sweet Life in Paris for all the best places and things to eat in Paris. Yum yum.
Mathe: I’m back in London from July 1 ish :)
Ellie Di: Thanks! I think I’m definitely at my best when I’m on the road somewhere foreign to me, armed with my camera.
Ivy: Merci! Looks like a great read.
I’m looking forward to read your posts about it! I live in Europe but I don’t travel at all (not my fault, I’m only 17 and my parents don’t travel so neither do I, too bad), but I’m going to London next month for the very first time (without non-traveling parents, with friends hehe) and I can’t wait. :) I have been in Italy (Rome) a year ago (with school haha) and it’s wonderful there, so I can recommend that. About Holland; I can’t really give you tips, because I don’t know Holland myself. I’ve lived here my whole life, but I feel like I haven’t seen anything. Should change that.
Hello, thanks for using my image of a Dutch bike in your blog. the shot was taken in Amsterdam. The city is somewhere anyone visiting Europe should visit.
Thanks again
If you like architecture an extended stay in Netherlands is a must.
Look out for Rem Koolhaus & friends. Watch the doco on the London gherkin before you go if you havent seen it already.
I like Rome – all those squares are impressive. Colesuem is still a knockout. But it is easy to try & do too much so pick a theme & try to plan some days out. If you haven’t been up the Eiffel tower.
Also make sure you spend at least a day in British museum in London b4 they have to give some of the loot back.
Enjoy
