UP, DOWN, BANG BANG

by Amber on May 3, 2009 in Notebook

Totally self indulgent style meditation ahead! I’m facing a similar quandary to Samantha over at Missbehave. That is – to fringe or not to fringe? Dilemma!

Right now it’s at that awkward stage; locks mincing past my eyebrows but not quite long enough to keep off my face without being pinned. Comparison (obvs. I will trim the hair curtain if bangs triumph):

haircut

I’ve been committed to the fringe for just over a year… ever since that spur of the moment cut at a bubblegum pink salon in Melbourne. Fringe pros include covering my prematurely aging forehead (I screw up my face a lot) and zits. Fringe cons – I find the face frame devours a lot more time when I’m getting ready.

What do you think? I really can’t decide! Or is it time to go with the undercut? Don’t worry, I’m kidding. Kind of.

I like it without the fringe. You look more inviting without it, and I think it suits you. Not that the fringe isn’t lovely too.

Hmm, I’m with Ms Constantine. I prefer the fringe-less look. Besides, if you start growing it out and find you’re really missing it, you can just get it cut back in!

I was just about to write this very same topic when yours popped up in my RSS. It is such a dilemma- my fringe has been so much part of my ‘look’ (ugh, I just said that) for so long that I can’t fathom getting rid of it. But! I am. And it’s very hard. I’ve been rocking a heavy side part with a pin for the past few weeks and getting lots of love for the fresh new I can See YOUR FACE shock…so I think it’s great- pain to have to actually put makeup on my whole face, pluck my brows more regularly…but I think once we’re through the pain it’ll be grand. Fancy starting a growing out support club? x

Kiss kiss bang bang! I think anyone who suits bangs is obliged to rock the fringe on behalf of all of us who just can’t do them, & I think they totes suit you. Then again, if you’ve had ‘em for a while, sometimes you just need a change, right?

Pretty much feeling the same thing right now. Can’t decide whether to keep the fringe or let it grow out – but the growing out stage is so tedious and makes me sad.

You suit both. Maybe fringe-less? Up until a few months ago I’d have been all about the fringe no matter what but even I’ve considered growing mine out recently… but under the lovely fluorescent light at the hairdresser last week I realised my forehead wrinkes have seriously manifested so I’ll be fringin’ for a while longer.

I’m all for change, although I love the fringe. Leia put it best – you can just cut it back in! (Bubblegum pink salon in Melb? Sounds much like my hairdresser! Ha!)

Ms Constantine: Aw thanks!

Leia: Fabulous point… I think I’m leaning that way.

Natalie: Yes, I need someone to a) lend me a hat during these hard times or b) hold my hand when I’m sobbing in front of the mirror!

Kate: Change can be really, truly, scary sometimes ;)

Monica: Lure on Smith Street? It’s a pretty cool place!

I’m contemplating the exact same thing. Not just because I look like a 14 year old with mine. Growing out a fringe is so irksome yet sometimes having one is so high maintenance. I vote we all get rid of ours’. Let’s do it!

Hahaha I go through the exact same dilemma every time I go to trim mine! it’s a very very hard decision! after reading this

http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/06/27/104-girls-with-bangs/

I felt silly and wanted to grow mine out so I didn’t look so much like I was trying to be unique when really I’m like every other girl in the room (seriously, we did a poll the other night at drinks and 6 out of 7 of us had fringes! mwahah, so very alt. right now)

every second girl has one now so I think it’s not so much an issue of “oh it’s/I’m not unique anymore” more an issue of “well does it suit me or does it not?”

Personally I think you suit the fringe better than no fringe, but both ways are good :)

*Rant that served not much purpose over*

p.s. if you do decide to grow it out I hear bobby pins are back in (don’t you love fashion? how can bobby pins be “in”?? …..but Vogue said so, so there you go)
